BrentR - Thank you, thank you, thank you! for telling us about the Perseid Meteor Shower! I took my daughter and one of her best old buddies to watch it last night. We had a grand old time at Carolina Beach, hooting and hollering like 4th-of-July-redneck-fools! It was lovely. To add to the drama, there was pinkish heat lightning, off the ocean in the distance while we star-gazed. We saw a few extraordinarily colorful shots, along with a few that looked like snowflakes, and barely caught 'em in the "corner" of our vision. It was a lot of fun. Thanks again, Brent!

FF - Definitely, talk with an MD or Psychiatrist (who is also an MD). They can help you sort it out and find what works for you. What works for some may not work for others. I've begun Prozac again, which I was told years ago is the drug of choice for PMS, but I am ready to experiment with something that doesn't kill my sex drive. My psychiatrist told me Welbutrin might be an alternative, but we decided to stick with the Prozac for now, since it works well for me, and I've been feeling a bit in crisis lately. One of the main reasons I ended up going off the Prozac was complete loss of libido, as well as the cost. Now I can get it at Target - (competing with Hell-Mart) - in generic for $4-/month! Last time it was $80! What's up with that shite?! Anyhoo, for the extreme anxiety/anger, I am trying something called Klonipin in very small half-doses for 6-10 days out of the month. (Its generic is clonazepam). The side effects are very minimal for me, and it seems to help minimize the extreme irritability and moodiness. Prozac also has the same effect on me, but it takes at least a month for it to kick in, so I've been given the clonazepam in the mean time. I hope you find something that works well for you and that you will be able to get on the right track in your life and relationships. Best wishes!

PMS has affected me very seriously. I am astonished to hear people say that PMDD is some sort of illness invented by the drug industry. Just because some women don't experience it or don't recognize it's happening to them, doesn't make it not real. It is very much a problem, both for me and for many of the women in my life. We are almost all seeking treatment for it, along with treatments for other emotional problems, which are severely exacerbated by "monthly misery." Good luck with your research, freedom frog. It needs to be done. A lot of suffering (both in women and their families) can be alleviated with proper treatment. I've been trying half-doses of Klonipin during the PMS days. I think it helps, with minimal side effects.

Wow! Maybe I'll head to the beach tonight with the brats to see it; if the moon's not out and it's not overcast, (like last year), maybe we'll actually get to see it! Thanks, Brent!

I have been logged in, on and off, all day, in between dish washing, laundry, recycling and trash take-outs. It's been a fulfilling day, I must say.

My Story "this is long, I'm sorry"
by ex-nj-jw ini'm not sure i ever really posted my story.
i think i've given bit's and pieces on others threads but not the whole thing on my own thread.
the issue that another member is having with childcare and yet another poster asking me why i'm still here after being out for 24 years has prompted me to type this up.. so here goes:.

You've done really well, ex-nj-jw! I am terribly sorry to hear about your son's troubles. I hope he will get better and come around to the fact that you did the best you could, and that you've certainly done better by him than your parents have done. They are very toxic parents. I am glad that you did not over-expose them to the grandparents - an easy mistake to make.
I too found it was a mistake to let my daughter spend time alone with my parents; it often seems that our parents are better grandparents than parents, but their nasty personalities eventually leak out, all over the place, especially when we are not around to circumvent it and protect our kids. I foolishly trusted they would respect my wishes about how to treat my child. Unfortunately, they were incapable of the self-control they so proudly proclaim is their hallmark.
Anyway, congratulations on your successes and happiness. I hope your son will join you in them, one and all, someday!

Is Being A Jehovah's Witness a Mental Disorder?
by Amber Rose infrequently i have seen the subject of borderlind personallity disorder mentioned on this board.
many people here feel that friends or relatives display many of the charactaristics of the disorder.
people with histories of abuse seem to be drawn to this religion.

People who are mentally ill are vulnerable to the onslaughts and lovebombing techniques of the JWs, as are other people in crisis. The mentally ill will often more readily adopt a cult mentality because of certain predelictions, just as abused individuals will also choose abusive situations, and gravitate to familiar pain, and such.
One thing's for sure: cults like the Jehovah's Witnesses are not healthy for the mind of any individual.
Jerry Bergman has some interesting things to say about JWs and mental illness here:
http://www.premier1.net/~raines/mental.html
Just google up "jehovah's witnesses and mental illness" or jws and mental health. You'll find some stuff to help sort it out.
I found this interesting article on religious fundamentalism as mental illness. You might enjoy reading it:

yep.
In my case, it all turned out to be education for education's sake . . . might be worth it, whether anyone else cares or not . . . whether or not you become a successful lawyer or business person or not . . . you know what you know.
It's worth the trouble, whether it makes you much money or fame, or not; it might lead to a satisfied mind, but only if you're lucky, I suppose.
Ciao! I hear thunder.
